Microsoft Touch Mouse

I have a laptop and while it has a touch pad for the mouse, I don’t like to use it. In a simple term, it just annoys me. I have to have an actual mouse. I tend to work faster with using a mouse. I had the chance to replace my current mouse with a Microsoft Touch Mouse. I will be honest and say that when I first got it, I wasn’t too sure I would like it and my confidence for my liking it after using it wasn’t too high.

Microsoft Touch Mouse

MS Touch Mouse

The new Microsoft Touch Mouse will make you love your Windows 7 computer even more than you already do.

7 gestures for Windows 7

  1. 360 scrolling
  2. Forward/Back
  3. Maximize/Minimize
  4. Snap
  5. Restore
  6. Instant Viewer
  7. Clear Desktop

The Touch Mouse’s multi-touch technology puts you in control with graceful slips and slides across the surface of the mouse, rather than clunky points and clicks. It transforms the way you work with Windows, so you can flick to quickly scroll and pan, or gesture to zoom, navigate, and manipulate content.

It’s as easy as one-two-three:

  1. Scroll or pan in any direction or page up and down with the touch of just one finger or thumb
  2. Simply slip two fingers left to right or up and down to dock, minimize, maximize, or restore a window
  3. Slide three fingers to close all windows, show the desktop, or open task switcher

Because the Touch Mouse features BlueTrack Technology, it works better than virtually any other mouse on just about any surface—the sofa cushion, glossy counter top, rough wood bench—you name it. Connect wirelessly through the USB nano transceiver for a 10-foot range. If you’re looking for an elegant mouse that gives you a fluid way to navigate Windows 7, look no further than the Touch Mouse.

Our thoughts

Size

The Microsoft Touch Mouse is small in size, but not too small to fit in the hand. I love that it’s sleek and feels nice while using it.

Installation

Once you plug in the transceiver in one of your open USB ports on your laptop, or on your main PC. Once that is in, a window will pop up letting you know that a software is being installed to your computer. Once that is installed, your computer will then recognize the mouse.

Tutorial

With the pop up, you will also have an option to do a walk through tutorial on how to use the mouse itself. By using your fingers and even your thumb, you can ‘sweep’ your way through windows, organization of your windows and navigate smoothly around the windows that you have open.

WP_002204

Storage

When the mouse isn’t in use, the USB transceiver stores inside the mouse. I love this because when I travel, I like to take my mouse with me and there have been so many times that I have lost my USB transceiver. This storage is genius!

WP_002205

Use

I was pleasantly surprised to find that I really like the Microsoft Touch Mouse. When I am in the living room doing some work to be around the family, with my old mouse, each click seems to get louder and louder. With the touch mouse, the clicks are silent. The sweeps of use are amazing and a is a technical genius creation. Instead of using one finger for the click, you are literally using 4 with multiple uses for sweeps and clicks making the work and navigation easier to get around.

Overall, I love the Microsoft Touch Mouse! I love everything about it and love that it has an interactive tutorial so that you can learn or do a refresher on the touch mouse. The price is a bit higher than I have paid for a mouse in the past, however you are able to do so much more with the mouse to make your work more effective and easier, so I do feel that the price is worth what all you get.

Retail: $79.95

Infantino HappiTaps & App Review for iPod touch & iPhone

There’s no doubt that our family loves technology. Wherever we go, something comes with us; iPod, iPad, gaming devices – you name it, we take it. The kids love their iPod’s, but I am always scared that one will drop and crack. This is where HappiTaps comes in to play to help our travels keep the iPod safe and even more fun.

HappiTaps

HappiTaps are the first-of-its-kind toy/app hybrid. A lovable teddy-bear friend that leverages toddlers’ newly found fascination with touchscreen smartphones and the classic comfort of plush, huggable toys that creates a truly interactive, lovable companion. Put your iPhone or iPod touch inside a HappiTaps case, download the free app, and voilà: the 21st century Teddy.

Beary Happi is the first HappiTap. Kids will watch him come to life in a manner never before experienced in a plush toy. They will love nurturing him, feeding him, and helping him go to sleep. Or listening to him chat, share fun facts, tell jokes, stories or sing songs. Beary will keep kids engaged and learning.

Suitable for iTots 18+, Beary Happi is at the forefront of the “app-cessory” trend.

HappiTaps

Our thoughts:

Right out of the box, I was pleased with what I saw. You get Beary Happi, the very first HappiTap character. He is adorable as can be! Within the package, you get a HappiTap., a foam pad in case you have a newer generation iPod (to prevent the iPod from being loose within the HappiTap itself), as well as a plastic ring making it easier to carry, travel with or even clip on the back of a car seat or even on an infant car seat handle. Kambry loves to have this on so that she can clip it on her backpack when we travel.

DSC_0189

DSC_0184

All you have to do is slip the iPod touch in the back portion of the HappiTap, download the free app and you are literally ready to go.

DSC_0181

The free app has so many features on it, but you are able to upgrade for just 99 cents and open more features, like more stories, to HappiTaps.

HappiTaps-Home

How cute is he??? I love that it’s small in size, yet keeps the iPod touch padded on case it is dropped. My ONLY suggestion for HappiTaps would be to make the face insert a just a tiny bit wider and taller so that it’s easier to slide your finger over the option drop menu, as well as to see the home button on the iPod itself.

DSC_0179

Here is a short video showing you just a few things that HappiTaps does.

We HIGHLY recommend HappiTaps!

You can download the Beary App on iTunes for FREE! The Beary Happi unique HappiTaps case is MSRP $19.99. We were just in the mall this weekend and a cashier at a department store saw it and asked where to buy for her daughter. This really IS the “pawfect” gift!

3M Privacy iPad screen

I travel quite a bit. This ranges from holiday family travel, personal out of state travel and quite a bit of media travels. I always take my iPad with me and when I am on an airplane, it’s kind of hard to get work done and type without the person directly next to me gazing at my screen out of nosiness. I have tried shifting my body and even dimming my brightness on my iPad, but why should I have to go through all that when all I want to do is write, or even watch a movie on my iPad while I am traveling. I had the chance to work with 3M to check out one of their privacy screens for the iPad.

3M Privacy iPad screen

iPad2_2R_Vert

Whether you’re shopping for all the ingredients for a holiday party in the supermarket or for gifts at the department store this holiday season, it’s likely you’ll have your phone or tablet out checking texts, email, Facebook and Google maps when corralling through crowds and long lines at the registers.

If you’re out and about or just relaxing at home with your children, you want to ensure your device and its information is for your eyes only, while also keeping it clean from dirt, dust and scratches. EnterPrivacy Screen Protectors from 3M!

    • HTC™ eVo™, DROID™ Incredible by HTC™

Our thoughts:

I really like the overall concept of the 3M Privacy iPad screen. I like that it protects my screen from dirt and scratches and I love that it is a privacy screen. I have used it while sitting next to people and they cannot see my screen unless it’s vertical.

It was very easy to install.

DSC_0089

When you get it, the directions are very easy to read and understand.

DSC_0090

It comes with the screen protector itself and a cleaning cloth.

DSC_0091

Take the cleaning cloth and clean the screen before you start attaching the privacy screen.

DSC_0093

Once your iPad screen is clean, start by taking the corner and peel it back.

DSC_0094

Start with a corner and start applying the screen. I will admit that this thing is a buggar to get the bubbles out of, but once it’s on, it’s very nice and you cannot see any bubbles in the screen.

DSC_0095

This is a view from my looking down at it from the side. Already, the screen is dark for privacy, however if you are directly in front of it, it is clear.

DSC_0097

Looking directly at the screen is clear as day.

DSC_0098

Looking from the top to the side.

DSC_0099

Here’s the 3M Privacy iPad screen in action.

My only down fall to the 3M Privacy iPad screen is that you have to buy the vertical OR the horizontal screen. In other words, you only get privacy on one direction, not all around. It is weird to get used to, but overall I really like it. My mother did make a comment while I was visiting her. She was trying to peek over my shoulder and look at something on my iPad and she said “I can’t see a damn thing!’” So, it works! LOL! I do recommend the 3M Privacy iPad screen, especially for those that travel a lot.

Sony VAIO Y Series – Ultra Portable Laptop

I travel a lot. When I say a lot, I mean a whole lot! Whether I am on the road for a 14 hour family road trip, just down the road at a friends house, or flying halfway across the world for a media event, there’s one thing that I keep on doing, and that is my computer work so I can stay up to date with emails, replies and content for my blog. Sure, my iPad is easy to travel with, but admit it…. it’s just not a computer. There’s pro’s and con’s to any device that you use, but with a PC, I can access my Outlook and all my files that I need to access for my content. When I fly, I stopped taking my bulky laptop because it was getting too heavy as I toted through the airports and don’t even get me started on the security hassle. I’ve been traveling for the past couple of months with a compact and portable laptop that weights next to nothing. I am so excited to share my thoughts with you on the Sony VAIO Y Series Ultra Portable Laptop!

Sony VAIO Y Series

Sony VAIO Y Series - Ultra Portable Laptop

Sony VAIO Y Series - Ultra Portable Laptop2

  • Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium
  • 11.6″ screen for easy portability
  • Long lasting battery life
  • HDMI™ out to enjoy video on large screens
  • Built-in webcam and microphone

Colors available:

  • Pink
  • Silver

PERFECTLY PORTABLE.

Whether you’re looking for a lightweight laptop for frequent travel or just need a compact PC within easy reach around the house, the Y Series PC is a great option at only 3.23 pounds. Its thin profile and compact 11.6″ screen size make it a cinch to tote or easily slip in and out of carrying cases.

  • I use my Sony VAIO in so many ways; more than I imagined that I would. I have a home office in my basement and it’s a bit chilly down there right now, so there are times where I have cuddled on the couch with the kids with my VAIO and remoted in to my main PC that is in my office. I have also used it while sick in bed, to remote in to my main PC, as well as this is the perfect travel companion. When I go through security at the airport, I can easily slide the Sony VAIO out of my purse and on to the security belt without having to hassle with a heavy monster of a laptop like I’ve seen a lot of people do.

WP_000534

BIG-TIME BATTERY.

Mobility is as much about long battery life as it is about small form factors, and that’s where the Y Series delivers. Thanks to features such as an energy-efficient LED backlit display, this laptop offers up to 6 hoursof battery life with a standard battery.

  • I have read that the Sony VAIO has a 6 hour battery, but I have seen that it can get up to 10. I put this to the test. While traveling on my last event, I didn’t take the power cord with me. I was trying to travel as light as I could and with as less power cords as possible. I was able to use my Sony VAIO for a good 10 hours. Ten HOURS! You can adjust the battery settings within your control panel as well as save the battery life by dimming the display to make it last longer. Amazing battery life!

WHAT A DISPLAY.

The 11.6″ LED backlit widescreen display on the Y Series laptop offers lower power consumption for improved battery life while providing incredibly high brightness levels that amplify colors and deliver clear, crisp picture quality to bring your movies and pictures to life—even spreadsheets will look amazing.

  • This may be a 3 pound small computer, but the display is one to talk about. I have streamed movies, worked on documents and played games on the Sony VAIO and I do have to say that the display is impressive; more so than I thought it would be. The colors are so crisp and vibrant. While the screen size itself isn’t quite 12 inches, it definitely feels like I am at a bigger screen than what the VAIO has. I take a lot of pictures and the quality of those are simply amazing.

WP_000546

PACKS A PUNCH.

Backed by the new AMD E Series processor and up to 4GB of RAM, the VAIO® Y Series laptop is well-armed to tackle today’s most common tasks and activities. From streaming video to running standard productivity applications like Word and Excel®, this mobile PC offers the performance you require for your daily computing.

  • Don’t get an impression of a smaller PC unless you have tried the VAIO. When I am on the PC, I usually have several screens opened from editing images, remote log in to my main PC in my home office, Outlook to work on emails, chat, the internet, and even Windows Live Writer to work on drafts while I am on the road. I have had as many as 15 different screens and programs opened at once and not once have I had a lag in the processor. Even though the Sony VAIO has a nice processor and RAM space, it comes with 3 USB ports, so if I am taking a lot more pictures and videos while traveling, I can easily use the SD slot to pull the images from the SD card over to a portable USB flash drive.

405701977

GO BIG.

Whether you’re streaming your favorite TV shows or sharing photos and home videos, the VAIO® Y laptop lets you view content on your compatible HDTV at an incredibly high level of resolution. An HDMI™ output delivers both your video and audio to compatible TVs and displays via a single cable (sold separately), providing the optimal digital connection.

  • I am a huge technology nut and with the colder weather lately, I’ve been hooking the VAIO up to our television to stream movies from the web over to the main television. You don’t have to have a DVD to stream; just an HDMI cable to hook up from the VAIO to the TV. Easy as that – literally!

Overall: There’s not a single thing about the Sony VAIO that I don’t like. It doesn’t have a CD drive, but in the couple of months that I have had this, there hasn’t been a time that I have needed one. Pretty much any software that you currently have is available on a download or on a flash drive, however you are able to get an external CD drive, should you need one. The battery life is beyond impressive, the color quality is amazing and the ease of use is great! It does have a built in webcam that has MOTION EYE camera and microphone. I cannot tell you how much I have used this! I really didn’t expect to use it as much as I have, but when I travel for a media event, I love knowing that I can video chat with my family, or when we are home, the kids can video chat with the grandparents; such a great way to stay really in contact! From our family to yours, we highly recommend the Sony VAIO Y Series!

Looking at Microsoft software? Just after this post, I will have information on Microsoft Professional 2010, so stay tuned!

You can get the Sony VAIO in pink or silver, starting at $499.99

I travel a lot and one thing that I am always in the need for while on the go is power. With the constant use of Twitter, Facebook, email, texting, phone calls and picture taking, I have a constant need for power. I need power for my Windows Phone, as well as my iPod nano. How easy is it to use?

VERY easy! All you have to do is plug in the USB part of the cord in to your computer, or USB wall charger (I use a dual wall plug in, or the USB wall plug that came with my iPad) and the Powerpack starts to charge. You can press the button on the Powerpack itself to see how charged it is.

DSC_0004-1

Here’s a quick video walk through to show it in use.

Our thoughts

I LOVE the Rayovac Rechargeable Powerpack: Lithium-ion Charger! I have just one suggestion for a possible future addition to this product. I’d love to see prongs added to the back so that I can charge this with a wall outlet, in addition to the USB that is currently on the Powerpack. I love the size, I love the weight, I love how easy the Powerpack is to travel with. I have been able to charge my Windows Phone fully with one charge of the Powerpack when my phone’s power is critically low. Do we recommend the Rayovac Rechargeable Powerpack: Lithium-ion Charger? Absolutely!

Brookstone 4-in-1 Power Charger

646596p_alt1

I travel quite a bit. With the constant packing, unpacking and repacking, there’s one thing that I have found that I always take more than I need… chargers. I have to have one for my Windows Phone that plugs in the wall, but I also have been traveling with a car charger for it. Too many cords! I was blessed with a product that has saved my travel sanity in so many ways.

Brookstone 4-in-1 Power Charger

Let me count the ways on how I love this product!

I love the size. It’s a small item so it is very easy to travel with. Just pack it in your purse or bag and you are literally ready to be charged anywhere; home or in the car.

It is easy to use. You can use it to charge your phone (or pretty much any item) in your car, at home in an outlet, via USB through your PC or you can even with a 9-volt battery. That is something I never would have thought – a 9-volt battery? Just last month, we were out of power in our house from a storm and my Windows Phone needed to be charged. I pulled out a spare 9-volt battery, plugged it in the charger, plugged in my phone and my phone was being charged from that tiny 9-volt battery.

I love that the cord easily pulls out & there’s a button on the device to retract it. No more cord tangle! Now, when I travel, I don’t have to mess with taking 15 different cables and chargers. The Brookstone 4-in-1 Power Charger is a travel & sanity saver!

You can purchase the 4-in-1 Power Charger for $39.95 by visiting www.Brookstone.com.

When I received the HTC 7 Pro last month, I had some questions of my own, some were answered in the process of learning about the phone within the month.

I had a few questions that I asked, so I thought I would pass those on to you along with what I learned and my own thoughts.

  • Print screen: If you have an iPad, iPod touch, iPhone or even a Droid based phone, you have the ability to print screen. Print screen is currently not a feature that is available.
  • Accessories: Are there accessories available for HTC 7 Pro? Yes – the phone has Bluetooth, so any of the standard Bluetooth accessories should work.
  • Camera: The camera settings for the HTC 7 Pro keep defaulting to the original settings of 5mb. You currently are not able to set your own default for the size, resolution, brightness, etc. There is no forward facing camera, just a camera on the back side of the phone itself.
  • Emails: If you host your emails on your own server or a hosted server, you are not able to delete your emails from the server like you are able to do with a BlackBerry. This was a big question for me, since I was coming from a BlackBerry to a whole new platform. If you host your email via Hotmail, then yes – you are able to delete from that server.
  • Folders: If you have an iPad, iPod touch or an iPhone, you will quickly become addicted to the organization of folders. Currently, the HTC 7 Pro does not offer this feature, but I was told that later in 2011, this feature would be released in an update.
  • Social Networking; Twitter: Later this year, 2011, Twitter will be fully integrated in to the HTC 7 Pro phone. In the Windows Phone Twitter app, currently, you are not able to reply all, or mark someone as spam or block them from the app.
  • Social Networking; Facebook: With Facebook for Windows Phone (the app within the Windows Phone) you are not able to tag images that you upload from your phone, but you will be able to with the next update which will come out later 2011.
  • Social Networking; multiple accounts: I asked Microsoft if there was a way to integrate multiple accounts on the HTC. With Twitter, you can by using the HTC 7 Twitter app, as well as by using Seesmic. With Seesmic, you can add more than one Twitter account and maneuver within those accounts without having to log out and back in again. The HTC 7 comes with Facebook for Windows Phone. With this app, you are able to have just one Facebook account on this app logged in. Should you want another Facebook account, you should be able to use Seesmic or another Facebook app so you can be logged in to two accounts at the same time without having to log out, then back in again. I haven’t been able to get Seesmic to work with another Facebook account, so at this time, I just use Internet Explorer which is an app within the Windows Phone.
  • Fitness Apps: Recommendations seems to be MyFitnessPal, Calorie Tracker- LIVESTRONG, 6 Week Training. I am still playing around with some apps myself, but have found some luck with Endomondo Sports and RunKeeper. I am still going through the Marketplace to test out apps as I see new releases.
  • Battery Life: I do still have issues with the battery life not being as long as I’d like it to be. Even when on the phone for a short time a day, I still use my social networking apps, text messaging and emails and my battery life seems pretty short. To increase your battery life, you can set your background to the darkest background, turn Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off while you are at home and turn the vibrate option off unless you are in a situation that you need it.
  • Copy and Paste: With the iPhone, I was able to ‘select all’, copy and paste an unlimited number of times. With the Windows Phone, you are able to copy and paste, but the copy is to drag and drop your selected area, copy and paste – just once is the allowed time to paste. This is very easy to do. Should you need to paste multiple times, simply go back to your copy area and re-copy the area, then you can paste it where you need it.
  • Ringtones: You are not able to upload or create your own ringtones. All ringtones must be purchased through the Microsoft Marketplace.

What do I think about the Windows HTC 7 Pro, just one month in to using it? I love it! There are a few things that I hope to see change in the upcoming new releases, but overall, I am highly impressed with it!

I will have lots more info on the Windows HTC 7 Pro to come, including how you can write, store and share your Microsoft documents.

There are oh, so many, more features that this bad boy does, but I wanted to share with you my current month’s progress as to what I have learned about this technological genius.
