I have a laptop and while it has a touch pad for the mouse, I don’t like to use it. In a simple term, it just annoys me. I have to have an actual mouse. I tend to work faster with using a mouse. I had the chance to replace my current mouse with a Microsoft Touch Mouse. I will be honest and say that when I first got it, I wasn’t too sure I would like it and my confidence for my liking it after using it wasn’t too high.

Size

The Microsoft Touch Mouse is small in size, but not too small to fit in the hand. I love that it’s sleek and feels nice while using it.

Installation

Once you plug in the transceiver in one of your open USB ports on your laptop, or on your main PC. Once that is in, a window will pop up letting you know that a software is being installed to your computer. Once that is installed, your computer will then recognize the mouse.

Tutorial

With the pop up, you will also have an option to do a walk through tutorial on how to use the mouse itself. By using your fingers and even your thumb, you can ‘sweep’ your way through windows, organization of your windows and navigate smoothly around the windows that you have open.

Storage

When the mouse isn’t in use, the USB transceiver stores inside the mouse. I love this because when I travel, I like to take my mouse with me and there have been so many times that I have lost my USB transceiver. This storage is genius!

Use

I was pleasantly surprised to find that I really like the Microsoft Touch Mouse. When I am in the living room doing some work to be around the family, with my old mouse, each click seems to get louder and louder. With the touch mouse, the clicks are silent. The sweeps of use are amazing and a is a technical genius creation. Instead of using one finger for the click, you are literally using 4 with multiple uses for sweeps and clicks making the work and navigation easier to get around.

Overall, I love the Microsoft Touch Mouse! I love everything about it and love that it has an interactive tutorial so that you can learn or do a refresher on the touch mouse. The price is a bit higher than I have paid for a mouse in the past, however you are able to do so much more with the mouse to make your work more effective and easier, so I do feel that the price is worth what all you get.

Our thoughts:

Right out of the box, I was pleased with what I saw. You get Beary Happi, the very first HappiTap character. He is adorable as can be! Within the package, you get a HappiTap., a foam pad in case you have a newer generation iPod (to prevent the iPod from being loose within the HappiTap itself), as well as a plastic ring making it easier to carry, travel with or even clip on the back of a car seat or even on an infant car seat handle. Kambry loves to have this on so that she can clip it on her backpack when we travel.

All you have to do is slip the iPod touch in the back portion of the HappiTap, download the free app and you are literally ready to go.

The free app has so many features on it, but you are able to upgrade for just 99 cents and open more features, like more stories, to HappiTaps.

How cute is he??? I love that it’s small in size, yet keeps the iPod touch padded on case it is dropped. My ONLY suggestion for HappiTaps would be to make the face insert a just a tiny bit wider and taller so that it’s easier to slide your finger over the option drop menu, as well as to see the home button on the iPod itself.

Sony VAIO Y Series – Ultra Portable Laptop

I travel a lot. When I say a lot, I mean a whole lot! Whether I am on the road for a 14 hour family road trip, just down the road at a friends house, or flying halfway across the world for a media event, there’s one thing that I keep on doing, and that is my computer work so I can stay up to date with emails, replies and content for my blog. Sure, my iPad is easy to travel with, but admit it…. it’s just not a computer. There’s pro’s and con’s to any device that you use, but with a PC, I can access my Outlook and all my files that I need to access for my content. PERFECTLY PORTABLE.

I use my Sony VAIO in so many ways; more than I imagined that I would. When I go through security at the airport, I can easily slide the Sony VAIO out of my purse and on to the security belt without having to hassle with a heavy monster of a laptop like I’ve seen a lot of people do.

BIG-TIME BATTERY.

Mobility is as much about long battery life as it is about small form factors, and that’s where the Y Series delivers. Thanks to features such as an energy-efficient LED backlit display, this laptop offers up to 6 hoursof battery life with a standard battery.

I have read that the Sony VAIO has a 6 hour battery, but I have seen that it can get up to 10. I put this to the test. While traveling on my last event, I didn’t take the power cord with me. I was trying to travel as light as I could and with as less power cords as possible. I was able to use my Sony VAIO for a good 10 hours. Ten HOURS! You can adjust the battery settings within your control panel as well as save the battery life by dimming the display to make it last longer. Amazing battery life!

WHAT A DISPLAY.

The 11.6″ LED backlit widescreen display on the Y Series laptop offers lower power consumption for improved battery life while providing incredibly high brightness levels that amplify colors and deliver clear, crisp picture quality to bring your movies and pictures to life—even spreadsheets will look amazing.

This may be a 3 pound small computer, but the display is one to talk about. I have streamed movies, worked on documents and played games on the Sony VAIO and I do have to say that the display is impressive; more so than I thought it would be. The colors are so crisp and vibrant. While the screen size itself isn’t quite 12 inches, it definitely feels like I am at a bigger screen than what the VAIO has. I take a lot of pictures and the quality of those are simply amazing.

I have had as many as 15 different screens and programs opened at once and not once have I had a lag in the processor. Even though the Sony VAIO has a nice processor and RAM space, it comes with 3 USB ports, so if I am taking a lot more pictures and videos while traveling, I can easily use the SD slot to pull the images from the SD card over to a portable USB flash drive.

I am a huge technology nut and with the colder weather lately, I’ve been hooking the VAIO up to our television to stream movies from the web over to the main television. You don’t have to have a DVD to stream; just an HDMI cable to hook up from the VAIO to the TV. Easy as that – literally!

Overall: There’s not a single thing about the Sony VAIO that I don’t like. It doesn’t have a CD drive, but in the couple of months that I have had this, there hasn’t been a time that I have needed one. Pretty much any software that you currently have is available on a download or on a flash drive, however you are able to get an external CD drive, should you need one. The battery life is beyond impressive, the color quality is amazing and the ease of use is great! It does have a built in webcam that has MOTION EYE camera and microphone. I cannot tell you how much I have used this! I really didn’t expect to use it as much as I have, but when I travel for a media event, I love knowing that I can video chat with my family, or when we are home, the kids can video chat with the grandparents; such a great way to stay really in contact! I love Flat Out Heels! I have been keeping them in my purse anytime I travel. Just recently, I was at an event where my shoes had caused a huge blister on my heels. I love the ways these fit, the way they feel and the way they make it easy for me to use my phone and my iPad and even my GPS. Last year, we reviewed the men’s version of the <strong>smarTouch</strong> gloves. While the men’s version does work with women, the fit of the women’s gloves are tighter and to me, the material on the new version seems more fitting than the previous gloves.

On the gloves, they have the conductive threading on the index fingers and thumbs that create that electrical impulse – in other words, it allows your device (phone, iPad, touchscreen device) to be recognized by your touch.

Overall, I LOVE everything about the smarTouch gloves! Now, when we have our frigid winters, I will still be able to keep my hands warm while being able to maneuver around with my phone, iPad, and GPS while traveling. There are times that I will fly for an overnight media event, or it may be a 2 day media event, or even a week away road trip. With many trips, I need that perfect suitcase for the event. While I have a carry on suitcase, there are times that I don’t need all the room that the one carry on will have even though more room is better, right? Last, but not least…. my Brookstone toiletry bag filled with my makeup, shampoos, brush, misc. needs.

Can you believe that this tiny roller suitcase fit all this and I was STILL able to get it zipped? I have been told that I am the queen of packing and any of my suitcases are called the Mommy Goggles Clown Car. I know how to tightly roll my clothes to make everything fit. It may or may not be wrinkled when I get to my destination, but hey, even Brookstone has a solution for that with the tiny travel sized Steam Bug Iron that will fit in just about any carry on bag that you take. On the flight home, my carry on was jam packed since I decided to just shove everything in it, verses roll it like I did on the way there, but it was still able to roll it under the seat in front of me on the tiny Frontier flight, so that is a huge plus for me!

Overall, I LOVE the Brookstone Compact Rolling Traveler with Removable Laptop Sleeve! While this trip I didn’t use the removable Laptop Sleeve for my computer… I did take it out to pack my clothes and I used the external zipper to hold my small VAIO laptop and iPad for easy access to remove for security at the airport. Would I pay $99.95 for the Compact Rolling Traveler? I would gladly pay more! The space is amazing!

VERY easy! All you have to do is plug in the USB part of the cord in to your computer, or USB wall charger (I use a dual wall plug in, or the USB wall plug that came with my iPad) and the Powerpack starts to charge. You can press the button on the Powerpack itself to see how charged it is.
